Special Session 3 (SS3): Internet of Things and Data Science

Synopsis

In recent years, scientific research with special focus on internet of things (IOT) and data science have made substantial progress in providing an increased insight in the various aspects of internet of things, data science and their integration through the development of a number of models.

IOT represents a system of computer devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people interconnected that can communicate data via a network in an autonomous manner, in real time and without any human interaction. Since its appearance, several IOT applications have emerged to answer a set of challenges of various domains such as Health, Education, and Agriculture, which shows that the scope of the IOT is almost unlimited. Data Science is described at the first International Workshop on Data Science for the Internet of Things, organized as part of the IEEE International Conference on Adaptive Systems and Mobile Sensors (MASS) in October 2016, is "An interdisciplinary field that includes techniques for acquiring, storing, analysing, managing and publishing data. Data can be analysed using machine learning, data analysis and statistics - process optimization and power optimization in larger scenarios. " The amount of data generated by the Internet of Things is huge, which will lead to a growing demand for data analysis. Which indicates that the IOT is a great case of application of data science techniques, but this implementation still faces many challenges for example security.

The aim of this session is to provide an overview of recent advances and challenges in the Internet of Things, data science and their integration, and in particular to solicit contributions on real-world applications. Furthermore, this special session offers an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to identify new promising research directions as well as to publish recent advances in this area
